- This trek offers a perfect blend of nature’s beauty and our culture’s history.
Major Attractions of the Beas Kund Trek
- Breathtaking Majestic Peaks — During the Beas Kund trek, you will reach a ridge which is also a summit point. It’s above the meadows of Lady Leg, from where you can witness the clear view of mountain peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Ladakhi, and Shitidhar, which are part of the Dhauladhar Range and Pir Panjal Range.
- The Dense Forest — Right from the beginning of your trek, at first, you will catch only a glimpse of some patches of the forest, but as you keep progressing, you will start to witness the dense forest of Pine and Birch trees on both sides of the trail. Those trees appear to be the protectors of the region, who are standing tall like towering giants. The forest being dense simply adds a mystical touch to the trek.
- The Meadows of Dhundi and Lady Leg — The vast meadows of Dhundi and Lady Leg hold the most stunning view of all time. The meadows will be carpeted with blooming wildflowers and lush greenery, and some snow patches will also be there on the ground, which creates a perfect, colorful, vibrant view of nature. From the Dhundi Campsite to the Lady Leg, the whole region appears to be dressed in abundant beauty.
- The Beas Kund — This is the last but major highlight of the trek. The Beas Kund trek marks the origin of the Beas River, which holds geographical, mythological, and scenic importance. It is a crystal, shimmering turquoise glacial lake that appears like a beautiful mirror, reflecting a perfect picture of the giant peaks covered with snow patches.
Mythology and History Behind the Beas Kund Trek
Beyond nature’s beautiful scenic views and stunning giant peaks, this trek holds a deep connection with spirituality, mysticism, and legendary tales that have been passed down through generations.
According to local legends, Beas Kund was the meditation site of Rishi Vyas (the author of the Mahabharata). During his meditation, Mata Hidimba, wife of Bhima and mother of Ghatotkach, frequently visited the lake, disturbing his solitude. Despite his request to stay away, she continued coming.
Frustrated, Rishi Vyas asked her to move above the lake and cultivate Kyari (a small garden or patch of land). As she began preparing the land, he struck the glacier with great force, releasing a powerful surge of water that swept Hidimba down the valley towards Manali. This force is believed to have carved the path of the Beas River.
Seeking forgiveness, Hidimba returned to Rishi Vyas, who forgave and blessed her to be worshipped forever in the Kullu region. And this is why the Kund and the whole trek region are considered the most sacred place to witness and seek the blessings of Goddess Hidimba.

Options to Reach Manali
First, you can arrive at Chandigarh, Delhi, Pathankot, or Bhuntar airport. The journey from these locations to Manali is explained below.
- 1. Take an overnight bus to Manali from Delhi or Chandigarh, taking a bus from Chandigarh is the most ideal option.
- Chandigarh to Manali Bus : 10 hours.
- Delhi to Manali Bus : 14 hours is hectic and takes more time.
- ( We strongly recommend going for the govt. Buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. Buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Manali at 10 am. )
- 2. You can take a flight to Bhuntar Airport (but we would not recommend it because of the high prices of the flight and very high chances of cancellations), Manali is just a couple of hours away and you can easily get a bus or a private taxi till there. If you do plan to come via Bhuntar, make sure to reach at least a day before the trek starts.
- 3. You can even come via train, Chandigarh railway station is from where you can get direct buses to Kullu/Kasol/Manali that is 275 km from there and would take an overnight journey. Even in this case, reach a day before at Manali.
- ( If you prefer to travel independently, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab. Your trek coordinator will provide guidance on how to arrange for the bus or cab booking.)
Drop-Off Information
- The designated drop-off point is the Manali Govt. bus stand around 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm .
